[Dec. 2024] We already reported serval times that an increasing number of storage yard machines for bulk materials are being offered at troveo. This is partly a consequence of shutting-down already outdated coal-fired power plants in many industrialised countries and partly due to an increase of power generation through renewables.
In the case of lignite-fired power plants, such open-pit machines very often form a single unit with the adjacent opencast mines. After all, transporting lignite over long distances is not economical: The coal is converted into electricity on site. This previously very effective symbiosis is now disrupted given the decommissioning of the power plants. Consequently, the mining operations are also forced into shut-downs.
In this context, the bulky but robust mining machines are becoming obsolete. It is important to note though, that these machines were originally designed for extremely long operating times of 60 years and more, thus being virtually considered as “indestructible”. Many bucket wheel excavators and spreaders that are still in good working order date from the period 1970s to 1990s, i.e. from the time when the lignite fields were developed or expanded. Without the open-pit closures, they would probably have continued to be used on site for a very long time.
As dismantling and transportation are costly, the current operators are offering such used mining machines at almost scrap prices. After all, they would still save on the dismantling costs, usually borne by the buyer.
As this is a niche market, there are basically no marketing platforms for these large appliances worldwide. There are, however, several good reasons “Why Mines Buy Used Equipment”, as explained in a latest post by Savona Equipment Ltd., Canada. Our unique platform, troveo.de, is the only one listing used power plants as well as such opencast mining machines as individual, valuable components for sale.
Our Section “Equipment Offers” we have listed such machines: compact storage yard machines for bulk goods and, more recently, large machines from opencast mining operations.
Take a look at our latest entries EQO-121, EQO-122, EQO-127 and EQO-132 for at least six used bucket wheel excavators as well as at our offers EQO-123, EQO-130 and EQO-135 for five medium-size capacity spreaders. Belt tripper cars, hopers and conveyor equipment, all compatible with the above-mentioned machines, are also available for sale. All machines come from German manufacturers and were operated in European open-pit mines.
If you plan to expand your coal-fired electricity production, check your capital costs for next year budget. Through 2nd hand mining machines, you will optimise such costs significantly and reduce delivery time substantially! Send us a message to team@troveo.de stating the EQO ID number and we will provide you with further detailed information to meet your needs in time.
